Spoiler alert:
High Mesa Mystic Substack will be renamed to “Roger Goes Rogue”
Anything is possible.
After witnessing so many events in my lifetime, and experiencing so many things that would have seemed utterly impossible, I’m done expending any more energy in a fruitless attempt to place artificial limitations on a reality that will most surely zig right about the time everyone else decides to zag.
I have long said that this realm, whatever it may be, is “interactive”.
There may be any number of dynamics, players, factors — all worthy of exploration — but at the end of the day, what I know to be true in my life is this: the very fabric of this reality somehow responds to human consciousness.
Why does this matter?
Because in a world of infinite possibilities, the real question then becomes: what is probable?
Can human consciousness influence these probabilities?
I believe the answer is a resounding yes.
Focused Attention Changes Everything
In my Spring Forest Qigong work, I am reminded of founder Chunyi Lin’s message every time I practice:
Energy is neither created nor destroyed. It merely changes form.
Our energy (i.e. our consciousness) can and does influence that transformation.
The idea being that there is great benefit in participating consciously and with awareness in this dance.
In other words, CHANGE doesn’t happen TO US. We are an indistinguishable agent in all of the change that we experience in life.
What differs most from person to person is simply the story they tell themselves about this experience.
When I look back over the course of my own journey, it’s pretty clear that the story I have told myself has changed a great deal over time.
Invest in You
One of the many things I have treasured learning, experiencing, and bringing to others is discovery of how to heal myself energetically. To give you a sense of how far I have come, it was back around 2011 when I was first introduced to Reiki. I recall greatly resisting even the word “healer” at that time.
What is this healing stuff? Said the broken, compartmentalized, and dis-integrated Roger of that time.
Doubting everything that I was witnessing in my healing journey, including rather remarkable shifts in myself and others, I wrapped myself up safely in a blanket of cynicism.
One particular day, I woke up thinking about this stuff. I can still hear/see/feel that morning when I went out to the car to get coffee before the day got crazy.
Started it up.
Heard a nearly-audible voice say “TURN ON THE RADIO”.
Half asleep, I wasn’t in the mood to argue. I hit the button. Out of nowhere, a rowdy gospel song called “God Did It” was suddenly flooding my car.
How? I don’t leave my car tuned to gospel radio stations. And how strange to hit the button and instantly hear the words sung loud and clear “God Did It”… and repeated over and over.
Did that shake me out of my cynicism for good? Was I changed in a flash to never question things again? Did my healing work take off with miraculous results?
Nope, no, and nuh-uh.
But what DID change was yet another layer of my own energy. And perhaps more importantly, my awareness.
I began to wonder, how many times has that same voice spoken to me before? How many times have I blocked it out, and chosen - or allowed myself to forget?
I decided to start logging these experiences, because they were adding up. It’s not too hard to dismiss one such event. But when similar or related things start happening over, and over, and over… yeah, there’s something unusual happening.
In hindsight, I realize that everything I am sharing here is not unusual in the slightest. This is part of the journey of what I refer to as “waking up inside our lives”.
It’s not some objective milestone. Some badge you wear to get credibility or recognition.
It’s personal. It’s about YOU.
Waking up inside of your own life brings you into greater contact with your higher self, your source, and of course - your life energy, which is directed into the world by your consciousness through the act of FOCUS and ATTENTION. Your true power in life.
This is a YOU job.
Can others assist along the way? Absolutely. I chose to do that for quite some time. I still offer coaching services that work at this level. It blows my mind to think of the shifts that I have been honored to witness with long-time clients.
All healing is self-healing.
Others can hold space, be a compassionate witness, teach us some things about ourselves and the territory. But the real work can only be done by YOU.
Roger Goes Rogue
I’ll wrap this up by sharing a bit of news about the place my healing journey has brought me to today. And along with that, the name change for this Substack.
After this goes out, I’ll be changing the name to “Roger Goes Rogue”.
High Mesa Mystic will remain a cherished aspect of my journey, but I’m finaly ready to be one with my own name. (And man is there a someday-maybe story behind that.)
A few words about what is NOT changing: I’ll continue to write about, podcast, and discuss the same topics I have all along. I’ll be exploring themes of:
The Power of Human Creativity in the Age of AI — How do we continue to bring our innate divine spark to life in this world, as it is. AI is not going away, so how do we navigate around it or perhaps choose to work with it, with conscious awareness and intention?
(Exo)Consciousness — I’ll continue exploring the dynamics of consciousness, with a specific focus on exoconsciousness, i.e. the power of human consciousness in contrast to - or in conjunction with - non-human consciousness and intelligence.
The Journey of Self-Healing — becoming, or simply remembering our wholeness and completeness in a world that seems hellbent on dis-integration.
Why the name change?
I am shifting from being Part-Time Mystic / Healer to being Full-Time Roger.
I’ve talked a lot about the idea of getting out of thought-prisons. So in many ways, this is yet another layer of me breaking free. Another moment of “taking my own medicine” :)
Going Rogue? For long-time friends saying “dude, you went rogue long ago!” - like healing, waking up inside of your own life, and escaping thought prisons — it’s an ongoing process!
Truth is, I am loving the many things I am passionate about learning and doing, and what I bring into this world — enough such that I want to keep investing in them.
I will continue to offer coaching services to those who seek it, but am also pursuing all sorts of super-interesting freelance work.
